Huge column of 3 trees unearthed at Izumo Shrine

MATSUE, Japan - Photo shows the remains of a huge column made up of three trees unearthed on the grounds of the more than 1,340-year-old Izumo Shrine in Shimane Prefecture, western Japan. The discovery adds strong evidence in support of folklore indicating the shrine was one of the tallest buildings in ancient Japan, a local board of education said April 28.
