Islanders begin repairs on quake-damaged Kozushima
KOZUSHIMA, Japan - A junior high school student (2nd from L) joins repair work on Kozushima Island on July 5 as his school was closed. The islands of Kozushima, Miyakejima and Niijima in the Izu Islands chain have been experiencing seismic activity since late June. On July 1, a strong quake measuring a lower 6 on the 7-point Japanese intensity scale hit Kozushima, killing one person and causing massive landslides.
