Toyota Motor kicks off construction of plant in Tianjin, China

TIANJIN, China - Women in traditional Chinese dress prepare to take part in a ceremony July 12 marking the start of construction on an automobile plant in Tianjin, northeastern China. The plant will be operated under a 50-50 joint venture between Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. and Tianjin Automobile Xiali Corp. of China. In 2002, the factory will begin producing 1.3-liter passenger cars bearing the Toyota badge.
