Milk cows loaded on cargo ship to evacuate Miyakijima Island
MIYAKEJIMA, Japan - Cows are loaded on a cargo ship Sept. 2 at a port on Miyakejima Island as islanders leave the volcanic island. Miyake village authorities decided Sept. 1 to evacuate all residents within three days from Sept. 2 due to fears of massive pyroclastic flows. About 600 village officials and disaster relief workers are to stay behind on the island, located 200 kilometers south of Tokyo.
