Asia-Pacific environment ministers kick off Japan confab
KITAKYUSHU, Japan - Environment ministers from 44 Asia-Pacific countries kick off a U.N.-sponsored meeting on Sept. 4 to chart new regional environmental action programs over the next five years and launch an intercity network to promote conservation. The two-day ministerial conference of the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) began in the city of Kitakyushu in southwestern Japan following a three-day meeting of high-level officials that ended Sept. 2.
