Symposium on polluted lake beds begins in Otsu

OTSU, Japan - A four-day international symposium aimed at addressing contamination of lake beds begins in the city of Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. On Oct. 24. The symposium is being held in Asia for the first time and is jointly sponsored by a Canada-based society on research of water-life and the Lake Biwa Research Institute of Shiga Prefecture.

The board has given the scientific name of Sinamia Kukurihime to the fish after the name of a local shrine.
