Mexican forest group certifies management of Kochi woods

KOCHI, Japan - A Mexico-based environmental organization has certified as ''well-managed'' two lumber producers that run a forest in Kochi Prefecture, western Japan. Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) are the Yusuhara Forest Owners' Cooperative and sawmill owner Ikegawa Mokusai Kogyo Co., which administer the 2,300-hectare forest. Kochi Gov. Daijiro Hashimoto (L) holds up a box with the FSC logo and cooperative head Toshishige Nakagoshi shows off the certificate, at the Kochi prefectural office on Oct. 30.
