Work under way on care facility for Vietnamese children

BAC GIANG PROVINCE, Vietnam - Authorities take part in a ground-breaking ceremony Jan. 4 to mark the start of construction of a care facility for children in Bac Giang Province, Vietnam. The facility, located about 70 kilometers north of Hanoi, will care for disabled children of Vietnam War veterans. The project is funded by donations from Japan, Denmark and the United States.

    A new interactive mural of deported veterans, ''The Deported Veterans Diaspora,'' is at the Playas de Tijuana beach border wall on the Tijuana, Mexico side of the US-Mexico Border on September 6, 2024. The work, created by Lizbeth De La Cruz Santana, an assistant professor in the department of Black and Latino Studies at Baruch College in New York City, commemorates 16 war veterans who, after serving in the United States Army, were expelled from the country. The mural depicts the stories of veterans from different countries, such as Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica, among others, who, after fighting on behalf of the United States, face deportation. This mural is part of a larger project by Santana, in collaboration with Humanizing Deportation, to document and make visible the stories of deported people.
