Seagaia resort group files for bankruptcy protection

MIYAZAKI, Japan - The operators of the Seagaia resort complex in Miyazaki Prefecture, southwestern Japan, filed Feb. 19 for bankruptcy protection with the Miyazaki District Court. Phoenix Resort Ltd., a semipublic company, and two group firms filed bankruptcy petitions. The resort (seen in this October 1997 photo), which includes hotels, golf courses, a convention hall, zoo, tennis court and pool, was used as the venue for last July's Group of Eight foreign ministerial meeting.
