Robot that can work in radioactive environment

MITO, Japan - A robot developed to work in highly radioactive environment hazardous to human body is demonstrated at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) on March 14. JAERI has developed three types of the RESQ (Remote Surveillance Squad) robot. RESQ-C, equipped with two manipulators, can go up or down the stairs, open or shut the door, close or open valves and collect samples of gases, liquids and solid materials, JAERI officials said.
