'Hollywood in Japan' opens in Osaka, welcomes thousands

OSAKA, Japan - Confetti is scattered at a ''film-cutting'' ceremony at Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka on March 31 attended by Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger and Universal officials. Visitors lucky enough to have obtained the 30,000 tickets only sold in advance to ease the opening-day congestion streamed into the Hollywood movie theme park. Around 10 people who waited overnight in front of the gate were among the first to be allowed in.

        OSAKA, Japan - A police post in front of the Universal Studios Japan (USJ) theme park in Osaka that is staffed with officers fluent in languages such as English, Chinese and Korean, begins operations on March 20. Officers at the post located near the park in Osaka's Konohana Ward are expected to serve up to 500,000 USJ visitors from overseas every year, giving directions and helping resolve problems, police said. The park is scheduled to open March 31.
