Quake-hit Japanese school in Taiwan marks completion
HSIUSHAN VILLAGE, Taiwan - Japanese children in central Taiwan, whose school was destroyed in an earthquake in 1999, sing the school song May 4 in a ceremony marking the completion of their new school buildings, thanking those who made the $6 million project possible. The brand-new Taichung Japanese School sits amid paddy fields and banana plantations in Hsiushan, a village about 30 minutes' drive from the central Taiwan city of Taichung.
