Consul general buys furniture for ambassador
DENVER, United States - File photo shows the Japanese consulate general in Denver, Colorado. Consul General Makoto Mizutani, 52, has been dismissed for mishandling about $81,600 in public funds. Sources close to the Foreign Ministry said in Tokyo on July 28 Mizutani spent about $5,800 in public funds for purchasing furniture in a bid to win a favor of Japanese Ambassador to the United States Shunji Yanai in December 1999.
