260 people sue Ehime governor over history textbook

MATSUYAMA, Japan - People arrive at the Matsuyama District Court in Matsuyama on March 30 to file a lawsuit seeking around 13 million yen in compensation and an apology from Ehime Gov. Moriyuki Kato and others over the prefectural education board's adoption of a controversial history textbook. About 260 people, including South Koreans and Chinese, join the lawsuit.

TOKYO, Japan - Civic groups opposing the adoption of a controversial history textbook in public schools conduct a sit-in on Aug. 7 at the Tokyo metropolitan government office. The Tokyo metropolitan education board decided the same day to adopt the history textbook penned by nationalist historians in 24 junior high schools for frail and mentally handicapped children and two branch schools, all run by the metropolitan government.

The board decided to adopt the textbook, which China and South Korea say glosses over Japan's wartime atrocities, in 24 junior high schools for frail and mentally handicapped children and two branch schools, all run by the metropolitan government.

Intellectuals protest nationalist-authored history text
