Sugiyama forced to withdraw from U.S. Open women's doubles
NEW YORK, United States - Ai Sugiyama speaks to reporters as her hopes of winning back-to-back women's doubles titles at the U.S. Open was dashed Aug. 30 after her partner, Kim Clijsters of Belgium, pulled out of the doubles event because of muscle strain in her right leg. A dejected Sugiyama said, ''I'm really disappointed that we couldn't play, but at the same time I knew that Kim has an injury.''
