Ogi to step down as New Conservative Party head
TOKYO, Japan - Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Chikage Ogi (R) will be replaced by Secretary General Takeshi Noda (L) as leader of the New Conservative Party (NCP), one of the two coalition partners of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The Sept. 17 meeting of NCP lawmakers made the decision following Ogi's hospitalization last week due to illness. Ogi will retain her ministerial post.
