Upper house panel passes coast guard bill on suspicious ships
TOKYO, Oct. 25 Kyodo - A House of Councillors committee passes a bill Oct. 25 to allow the Japan Coast Guard to open fire on suspicious ships if they enter Japan's territorial waters without government permission. The committee's approval of the bill, which will revise the current coast guard law, paves the way for it to be enacted after clearing an upper house plenary session.
