Kamei becomes head of Diet group to abolish death penalty
TOKYO, Japan - Shizuka Kamei (standing), a former Liberal Democratic Party policy chief, addresses a meeting Nov. 2 in Tokyo of 75 Diet members calling for an end to the death penalty in Japan. The Diet group was formed in April 1994, and Kamei, a former senior official at the National Police Agency, is the fourth politician to lead it.
