1st clinic catering to women opens in Tokyo

TOKYO, Japan - A special clinic providing medical and psychological care, run by and for women, opens Nov. 6 in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward as Japan's first female-only general clinic. The Josei No Tame No Shogai Iryo Center Vivi is operated by the Center for Health Care and Public Concern.

                      Supporters of former sex slaves urge gov't to apologize, compensate

                      TOKYO, Japan - Representatives from the Center for Research and Documentation on Japan's War Responsibility, Women's Active Museum on War and Peace, and Violence Against Women in War-Network Japan meet the press in Tokyo on July 31, after submitting a joint proposal to the government urging Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to clearly apologize and compensate the victims of Japan's sexual enslavement during World War II. The move came a day after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution urging Japan to ''formally acknowledge, apologize and accept historical responsibility in a clear and unequivocal manner'' over the sex slave issue.
