Cambodia introduces 1st police 'koban'
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Two Japanese police officers (L) lecture Cambodian policemen on how to use Cambodia's first Japanese-style police box, or ''koban,'' completed in Phnom Penh on Dec. 12. The koban, built at a cost of about $20,000, was donated by Masahiro Yokota, president of a toys and dolls museum in Ikaho, a hot spring resort in central Japan's Gunma Prefecture. The community-friendly koban have caught the attention of other countries, with Singapore and San Paulo, Brazil, already introducing the system.
