Ex-tax office chief held over 250 mil. yen tax evasion+

TOKYO, Japan - Tsunekichi Hamada (file photo), former head of the Sapporo Regional Taxation Bureau, now an advisor to the talent agency managing popular singer Namie Amuro, is arrested by public prosecutors on Jan. 10 for allegedly evading 250 million yen in income tax. Hamada, 64, is accused of concealing about 730 million yen in income over a four-year period up to 2000 in violation of the Income Tax Law.
