Tokyo hospital apologizes for 7 infection deaths

TOKYO, Japan - Seiko Ito (foreground), head of the Ito Noshinkei Geka Byoin (Ito Neurosurgical Hospital), bows at a new news conference in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward on Jan. 18 and apologizes for deaths of seven inpatients at the hospital from what is believed to be an in-hospital infection.

          Five people are being injured, and one person is dying in a vehicle crash in Chicago, Illinois, United States, on May 18, 2024. At approximately 11:10 p.m., Saturday evening on the 3800 block of W. Harrison, a vehicle with five passengers is traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Harrison when it is disregarding a traffic signal and is being struck on the driver's side by another vehicle and then is striking a pole shortly thereafter. The driver that is striking the vehicle is remaining on the scene and is cooperating with police as they are investigating the accident. All five passengers are being taken to local area hospitals. A 14-year-old male is sustaining blunt force trauma to the head and body and is being transported to the hospital in critical condition. A 14-year-old female is sustaining blunt force trauma to the head and body and is being transported to the hospital and is being pronounced dead.
