Barred Japanese NGOs allowed to attend Afghan confab
TOKYO, Japan - Naoto Kan (R), secretary general of the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan, urges Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka (L) in Tokyo Jan. 21 to allow two Japanese nongovernmental organizations to take part in an ongoing conference in the capital on reconstructing Afghanistan. The Japan Platform and Peace Winds Japan have been barred by the Foreign Ministry from attending the conference because of their ''antigovernment'' stance.
