Scandal-hit Japan group sought huge loan from Philippine bank

MAKATI CITY, Philippines - Genta Ogami, 39, founder and honorary chairman of the Tokyo-based G.O. Group which is suspected of defrauding member investors, sought 400 million yen (about $3.1 million) in loans from Unitrust Development Bank (shown in file photo) in Makati City in Metro Manila shortly after the group acquired the bank in 2001, a former senior bank official said March 7.

TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows the head office of major trading house Mitsui & Co. in Tokyo, which bribed a ranking Mongolian government official in 2001 to secure orders for a Japanese government-financed power project. Sources close to the case said Aug. 28 employees of Mitsui, including Yusuke Shimazaki, 39, offered more than 1 million yen to a director general-level official in charge of power and energy management at Mongolia's Infrastructure Ministry.

Nichiren temple monk accused of evading tax

KOFU, Japan - File photo shows Shichimenzan Keishinin, an affiliate of the Nichiren sect's head temple Minobusan Kuonji, in the town of Minobu. The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau on March 28 filed a complaint against Yuko Nakazato, a former chief monk of the Buddhist temple, accusing him of concealing 330 million yen in income and evading 120 million yen in taxes over a three-year period up to March 2001.
