Sanyo unveils security robots

OSAKA, Japan - Sanyo Electric Co. unveils two models of a prototype security robot March 25. The robots, jointly developed with venture business Tmsuk Inc., have a built-in sound sensor enabling users to control their moves via mobile phone and a built-in camera to capture images of their surroundings.

        Aerology Lab (Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture) announced on April 14 that it has developed a prototype of a "purely Japanese" flying robot (drone), "AeroRange Pro" (photo), which consists entirely of parts made in Japan. In general, drones rely on parts made in China for most of their components. The company aims to start mass production in small lots by December. (Minato Ward, Osaka City), which operates an open innovation base, Kobashi Robotics (Minami Ward, Okayama City), which supports mass production, and Liberace (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo), which comprehensively supports venture businesses from trial manufacture to mass production. The company is promoting speedy manufacturing in cooperation with town factories in Kansai and other regions. The hybrid drone combines an engine and an electric motor.           Mitsubishi Estate's Disaster Drill Using Robots

          Mitsubishi Estate conducted a comprehensive disaster drill using security robots for foreign residents at several office buildings in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, including the Otemachi Park Building and Marunouchi Building. The robot is the SQ-2, which was jointly developed by the company and Seac Sense (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), and is capable of autonomous driving. "How can I help you? and so on in English. SQ-2 is 1,300 millimeters tall, weighs 65 kilograms, and is equipped with a proprietary three-dimensional laser sensor, artificial intelligence (AI) functions, a high-resolution camera, and a fisheye camera. Mitsubishi Estate said, "We are increasing the number of English-speaking security guards due to the increase in inbound tourism and the holding of the Olympics, but there is a limit.
