JAXA's fairing separation and release test for the H3 rocket

On April 17, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) conducted a separation and release test of the fairing (the tip of the rocket) for the new H3 core rocket at Kawasaki Heavy Industries' Harima Works in Harima, Hyogo Prefecture (photo). The fairing is a container that protects the satellite from wind pressure and frictional heat from the air while the rocket flies in the atmosphere. The internal capacity of the satellite is 2.3 times larger than that of the "H2A" 4S model. Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) layers were used for the perimeter panels, and the number of panels assembled was reduced by enlarging each panel to keep costs down. Japan Display Inc. (JDI) has finalized a new fundraising framework totaling over 100 billion yen. In addition to raising 80-90 billion yen from Ichigo Asset Group, an independent investment fund, JDI will also sell some of its facilities at its Hakusan plant (Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture) to Apple Inc. On April 12, JDI announced that it had reached a basic agreement with Ichigo Trust to raise up to 90 billion yen from Ichigo. Minoru Kikuoka, president of JDI, explained the purpose of the framework at a press conference on January 12, saying, "We will sell assets in order to enhance our capital and at the same time minimize the impact on existing shareholders through dilution. Fuel rods removed at Genkai nuclear plant

TOKYO, Japan - Work is underway to remove fuel rods from the No. 3 reactor at Kyushu Electric Power Co.'s Genkai nuclear power plant in Genkai Town, Saga Prefecture, in March 2013. Japan did not include 640kg of unused plutonium in its annual report to the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2012 and 2013. The unreported plutonium is part of the MOX fuel which was loaded to the No. 3 reactor in March 2011 during its regular checkup but was removed unused in March 2013 as the reactor has remained idle since the Fukushima nuclear crisis.
