23 taken to hospital after inhaling fumes at nursery school

TOKYO, Japan - Children are taken out of a nursery school in Tokyo on May 1 after complaining of throat pain and feeling nauseous from what appeared to be paint thinner fumes. Twenty-three children and staff at Funabori Chuo Hoikuen were taken to hospitals, but none showed serious signs of illness.

2 Iraqi children released from Tokyo hospital after surgery

Ex-abductees express joy over coming reunions with children

TOKYO, Japan - Four of the five repatriated abductees expressed joy in Tokyo on May 22 over the reunions to take place later in the day with their sons and daughters, when Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi returns home from Pyongyang after talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. But they also expressed unhappiness that the three family members of a former abductee, Hitomi Soga (C), will not be coming to Japan at this time. OSAKA, Japan - Rescuers bring into Ikeda Hospital a child injured by a knife-wielding man June 8 at Ikeda Elementary School, attached to Osaka Kyoiku University in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture. At least eight children were killed and 21 others, including three teachers, were injured by the man, who barged into the school's classrooms.
