IWC closes, nixes native whaling bid in Arctic
SHIMONOSEKI, Japan - The International Whaling Commission (IWC) ends its five-day annual plenary meeting in Shimonoseki, western Japan on May 24. The 48-member body rejected for the first time in its 56-year history a special whaling quota to allow indigenous people to hunt whales.
