Panel to rethink road privatization
TOKYO, Japan - A government advisory panel tasked with privatizing four debt-ridden road-related public corporations is in session at a Tokyo hotel Aug. 22. The agreed to review a scheme to turn the entities into self-sustaining private firms 10 to 15 years after privatization. About 8.1 trillion yen in taxpayer money needs to be injected to repay some of the entities' debts if they all go public within 10 to 15 years, said the panel of seven private-sector experts.
