Empress Michiko urges world to help children read, escape fear
BASEL, Switzerland - Japan's Empress Michiko delivers a speech in Basel on Sept. 29 urging the world to come to the aid of the great number of children deprived of the joys of reading and forced to face fear and dread in strife-torn areas. The empress was speaking at a congress to mark the 50th anniversary of the International Board on Books for Young People.
