14-year jail sentenced in Aomori embezzlement case

AOMORI, Japan - A car carrying Yuji Chida charged with embezzlement arrives at the Aomori District Court on Dec. 12. Chida was sentenced to a 14-year prison term for embezzling 1.45 billion yen from a public housing corporation in Aomori Prefecture. He confessed to giving about 1.1 billion yen of the embezzled money to his 29-year-old Chilean wife, Anita Alvarado, and her relatives.

      AOMORI, Japan - Shinichi Tokumi (R), board chairman of Aomori Prefectural Housing Supply Public Corp., announces in Aomori on Aug. 6 that the corporation has filed a criminal charge in Chile against Anita Ester Alvarado Munoz, Chilean wife of Yuji Chida, formerly in charge of accounting at the corporation, to reclaim some of the money Chida allegedly embezzled from it.
