Winter sunflowers to be dedicated at Kobe quake anniversary
KOBE, Japan - A group of local residents in Kobe has grown sunflowers during the winter to delicate the bright yellow flowers of summer to the anniversary of the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake on Jan. 17. The ''sunflowers in winter'' idea came from the citizens group, Sunflower Friends 21, with plans to grow 100 sunflowers in time for memorial services to mourn the 6,432 deaths from the 1995 earthquake.
