Confab on disaster-prevention in Asia begins in Kobe
KOBE, Japan - An international conference on prevention of natural disasters in Asia gets underway in Kobe on Jan. 15, just ahead of the eighth anniversary of the earthquake that struck the city on Jan. 17, 1955, killing more than 6,000 people. At the three-day meeting, the some 300 participants, including government officials, nongovernmental organization (NGO) members and scholars, will exchange views on how to share lessons from past disasters and hone prevention skills.
