Painting thought worth 10,000 yen turns out to be a van Gogh
TOKYO, Japan - An ''anonymous'' oil painting depicting a middle-aged peasant woman, to be auctioned Feb. 8 in Tokyo, has turned out to be an original early work by the Dutch post-impressionist master Vincent van Gogh. The auction sponsor estimates that the painting, part of the collection of the late Japanese painter Kazumasa Nakagawa, will fetch a quote of at least 3 million yen, rather than the earlier estimate of 10,000 yen.
