Japan's purpose is not regime change in Iraq: Kawaguchi
TOKYO, Japan - Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi speaks at a news conference March 20 after the ministry activated its crisis management office to collect information on the U.S.-led war on Iraq and to secure the safety of Japanese nationals in Iraq and neighboring countries. Kawaguchi denied Japan's purpose in supporting the U.S.-led military strike on Iraq is regime change, but suggested Iraqi President Saddam Hussein needs to step down to resolve the Iraq weapons crisis.
