Defectors urge Japanese to understand N. Korean situation

TOKYO, Japan - Koichiro Iizuka (R), whose mother Yaeko Taguchi was abducted by North Korea in 1978 and reported by Pyongyang to have died, meets the press in Tokyo on Feb. 23. He handed a senior Foreign Ministry official the same day a letter addressed to Kim Hyon Hui, a former N. Korean agent believed to have learned Japanese from the mother. Kim lives in South Korea.

Suzuki Motor to sell Daewoo-built cars in N. American market

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows the Verona subcompact sedan, one of the three car models Suzuki Motor Corp. will start selling in North America in 2004. Suzuki said Feb. 13 the three car models were built by South Korea's GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. (GMDAT), an auto-making joint venture General Motors Corp. and Suzuki set up last year with the creditor banks of bankrupt Daewoo Motor Co.

Arrest warrant issued for N. Korean over abduction

TOKYO, Japan - The Metropolitan Police Department on Jan. 8 obtained an arrest warrant for Kim Se Ho, a 74-year-old North Korean agent on suspicion of abducting Yutaka Kume (file photo), a Japanese national believed to have been taken to North Korea in 1977.

TOKYO, Japan - Sakie Yokota holds pictures of a North Korean girl, Kim Hye Gyong, who has been confirmed to be the daughter of her daughter Megumi, one of the Japanese nationals North Korea abducted and now lists as dead, at a news conference in Tokyo on Oct. 24.
