Shikibo develops micro-print textile to prevent forgery

OSAKA, Japan - Textile maker Shikibo Ltd. said June 17 it has developed a textile (photo) onto which extremely minute images or characters can be etched with a laser to prevent forgery. ''The technology will be instrumental in blocking forgeries of brand-name clothes because it enables the etching of markings invisible to the naked eye,'' a Shikibo official said.

                      Maeda Kosen has invested about 2.2 billion yen in MedAlliance, a Swiss medical device venture, and signed an agreement to exclusively market a new drug-coated balloon for the treatment of peripheral artery disease in Japan. MedAlliance, established in 2008, has the technology to apply sirolimus, an immunosuppressant agent, to the film material of the balloon. The technology applies sirolimus when the balloon is expanded in the blood vessel to prevent the onset of re-narrowing after the procedure.
