Fuji Photo Film develops new digital camera prototype

TOKYO, Japan - A digital camera prototype (photo) unveiled July 16 by Fuji Photo Film Co. gives users easier access to printers and personal computers through wireless local area networks (LANs). The prototype features 3 million pixels and a LAN card with a transmission capacity of 11 megabits per second.

Bandai to sell Endeavour model made of superalloy

TOKYO, Japan - A woman shows a 1/144 model of the Space Shuttle Endeavour made of superalloy materials during a presentation in Tokyo on July 5, 2010. Toy maker Bandai Co. will put the completed and painted model of Endeavour, which carried Mamori Mori as the first Japanese payload specialist in 1992, on the Japanese market on Dec. 3 with a price tag of 47,250 yen. The model of Endeavour is the second in Bandai's fine scale model series for adults.

Nikon develops digital camera with built-in wireless LAN

TOKYO, Japan - Nikon Corp. has developed what it says is the world's first digital camera with a built-in function allowing users to transmit image data wirelessly to printers and personal computers. The Coolpix P1 -- 9.1 centimeters by 6.0 cm by 3.9 cm -- can transmit image data to a PC up to 30 meters away from the user, Nikon said, adding that it will put the camera on the market Sept. 23 for about 50,000 yen.

KDDI cellphones to be used to pay fares at JR East stations

TOKYO, Japan - A model demonstrates how a mobile phone handset is used to pay train fares at a press conference at a Tokyo hotel on July 11. Subscribers to KDDI Corp.'s ''au'' mobile phone service will be able to pay train fares with their handsets at East Japan Railway Co. stations starting in January 2006, the two companies said. JR East will allow its Suica electronic train fare card functions to be installed on Internet-capable mobile phone handsets for use with KDDI's EZ FeliCa service to be launched in September in combination with Sony Corp.'s FeliCa contactless integrated-circuit card technology.

TOKYO, Japan - KDDI Corp. President Tadashi Onodera shows off a new cellular photo at a news conference in Tokyo on Oct. 22. KDDI said that starting Nov. 28 it will offer a new service enabling users of its ''au'' mobile phone service to transmit and receive data at a speed equivalent to that provided by an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) connection. KDDI said it will introduce a flat rate for packet transmission, giving users of the new service unlimited access to the Internet for a fee of 4,200 yen a month.

Konica, Minolta set to launch holding company for integration

TOKYO, Japan - The new logo is displayed Aug. 4 for Konica Minolta Holdings Inc., which will be set up by Japanese camera and office equipment makers Konica Corp. and Minolta Co. on Tuesday for the integration of their business operations scheduled for Oct. 1. The holding company will challenge the top three leaders in the precision instrument industry -- Canon Inc., Fuji Photo Film Co. and Ricoh Co.

Takara faces patent suit over hit home karaoke system

TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows the e.kara portable home karaoke system marketed by Takara Co. Patent control company Ricos Co. said July 11 it filed a 900 million yen damages suit against Takara, claiming the toy maker violates one of its patents.
