Sony to release TVs with high-speed Internet access

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Marketing (Japan) Inc. said Aug. 4 it will release two digital high-definition plasma TV models with high-speed Internet access this fall. The 42-inch KDE-P42HZ1 (in photo) will be put on the market on Sept. 10 and the 50-inch KDE-P50HZ1 on Oct. 10 at suggested retail prices of 1.15 million yen and 1.4 million yen, respectively, the Sony Corp. group firm said.

              TOKYO, Japan - Seven new models of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.'s popular large-screen, flat-panel Viera televisions are displayed at a presentation in Tokyo on Aug. 9.                 TOKYO, Japan - Hitachi Ltd. on Sept. 26 unveiled the 50- and 60-inch models in its Wooo series of plasma television sets for digital high-definition broadcasts, hoping to bring its TV business into the black. The 50-inch W50P-HR10000 and 60-inch W60P-XR1000, both equipped with built-in hard disk recorders, will be put on the market in mid-November and late December, respectively, Hitachi said.

                    TOKYO, Japan - Toshiba Corp. and Canon Inc. said on March 8 their alliance will delay the release of a next-generation high quality-image TV, known as a surface-conduction electron-emitter display television, or SED TV (in photo taken on Oct. 4, 2005), until the October-December period of 2007 from the originally planned release date this spring. A Canon official said the two decided to put off the release as they have found it hard to cut production costs quickly enough.

Toshiba aims to win a competitive edge in the battle for the next-generation DVD market by debuting two high definition DVD players. The HD DVD format, developed by a Toshiba-led group, is competing with the Sony-led group's Blu-ray format.
