URAYASU, Japan - Visitors crowd Tokyo Disneyland on Sept. 6 although the amusement park halted its popular ''Big Thunder Mountain'' roller coaster after a similar attraction derailed at the original Disneyland in California.

              Joint Conference by SOMPO Holdings and Palantir Technologies

              Palantir Technologies (California) , a U.S. provider of big data analysis, announced on the 18th that it has established a joint venture with SOMPO Holdings (HD) (photo). On December 1, Palantir will provide a service to analyze all kinds of data within Japanese companies and public institutions, including Excel, e-mail, and call records. The data will be used to predict the possibility of free recalls of automobile parts and to detect money laundering. The new company, Palantir Technologies Japan (Chuo Ward, Tokyo), is 50% owned by Palantir and 50% by SOMPOHD. It will be capitalized at 100 million dollars (about 10.8 billion yen), and aims to achieve sales of 100 billion yen in the medium to long term. President Kengo Sakurada expressed his hope that the company will pursue its dream of becoming a real data platformer.                   U.S. court orders Takeda to pay $6 billion

                  TOKYO, Japan - File photo taken in October 2010 shows the Tokyo headquarters of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. The company said Sept. 4, 2014, it has been ordered by a U.S. district court to pay $6 billion in punitive damages over a lawsuit filed by a man who claimed his bladder cancer was caused by Takeda's diabetes medicine Actos. Takeda plans to counter the move through legal means, including the option of appealing to a higher court, company officials said.
