Coalition eyes higher tax on elderly in FY 2004
TOKYO, Japan - Yuji Shimazu (R), chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party's tax research council, speaks at a news conference at the party headquarters on Dec. 17. He unveiled a tax plan for fiscal 2004 that will toughen taxation on the elderly and raise a portion of the local income tax to secure more revenues for the debt-ridden public coffers.
