Tohoku Electric scraps nuke plant project in Niigata

NIIGATA, Japan - Tohoku Electric Power Co. President Keiichi Makuta (L) meets with Niigata Gov. Ikuo Hirayama on Dec. 24 to convey his firm's decision to abandon its plans to build a nuclear power plant in Maki, Niigata Prefecture. This is the first time a project included in the government's plan for developing power sources has been scrapped.
