8 people get bird in Vietnam, 6 dead
HANOI, Vietnam - Shigeru Omi (C), director of the Western Pacific Region Office of the World Health Organization, tells reporters in Hanoi, on Jan. 27 the number of human cases of bird flu in Vietnam has risen to eight, with ''many more'' on the horizon. Six of the infected people, mostly children, have died. Omi, in Hanoi for talks with Vietnamese officials, said that since the virus is so widespread in poultry, it will have many opportunities to mutate to a form that is transmissible between humans.
