Japan renews call on U.S. for stricter mad cow testing
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi speaks in reply to questions at a House of Councillors Budget Committee session on Feb. 5. The premier said he has instructed agriculture minister Yoshiyuki Kamei to ask the U.S. to employ stricter measures to ensure the safety of U.S. beef, including testing all cattle for mad cow disease, before Japan would lift its import ban.
