WTO informally approves Oshima as next head of General Council
GENEVA, Switzerland - The World Trade Organization (WTO) agreed at an informal ambassador-level meeting on Feb. 9 that Shotaro Oshima (file photo), Japan's representative in Geneva, will become the next chairman of the WTO General Council, trade sources said. Oshima, 60, is to replace incumbent Chairman Carlos Perez del Castillo, whose term expires this month, making Oshima the first Japanese to head the top decision-making body of the Geneva-based WTO.
