(3)Gusmao urges Japan to maintain SDF presence in E. Timor

TOKYO, Japan - East Timor President Xanana Gusmao speaks during a news conference Feb. 23 at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo. He said his country is pleased to hear of U.N. preparedness to extend its mission in East Timor for an additional one-year ''consolidation phase,'' at a reduced size.
