Guinness identifies Japanese maglev speed as world's fastest

KOFU, Japan - Photo shows a Guinness Book of Records certifying that a magnetically levitated (maglev) train of Central Japan Railways Co. (JR Tokai) has made the fastest speed in the world for any manned maglev train. JR Tokai's manned maglev train, also known as a linear motor car, scored a top speed of 581 kilometers per hour at the firm's test railway in Yamanashi Prefecture west of Tokyo on Dec. 2, 2003.
