Koizumi thanks all for help in hostage release
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi speaks to reporters at his office April 16. He thanked all those who helped to secure the release of three Japanese hostages in Iraq while expressing his continued commitment to helping rebuild the war-torn country. ''We could not succumb to the culprits' demands, but we had to rescue the three safely. It was a hard job,'' Koizumi said, referring to the hostage-takers' demand that Japan withdraw its Self-Defense Forces troops from Iraq.
