NEC expecting year-end pickup in demand for digital appliances

TOKYO, Japan - Akinobu Kanasugi, president of NEC Corp., spoke in a recent interview with Kyodo News in Tokyo. Kanasugi brushed aside signs of a slowdown in demand for digital consumer electronics that has helped lead Japan's economic recovery.

                      The construction cost was not disclosed, but it is estimated to be several percent higher than the usual cost of about 600 million yen. The station will produce hydrogen using city gas from a medium-pressure pipeline. Carbon dioxide (CO2) generated in the process of mining and burning liquefied natural gas (LNG) is offset. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to have more than 100 fuel cell buses in use by the end of this year, and the Toyosu Hydrogen Station will be responsible for supplying hydrogen to the city's fuel cell buses. Takashi Anamizu, vice president of Tokyo Gas, said on the same day that he expects the station's operation rate to increase significantly.
