Ex-bureaucrat wins Niigata governorship election
TOKYO, Japan - Hirohiko Izumida (C) and his supporters celebrate Izumi's victory in the Niigata gubernatorial election at his election campaign office in Niigata on Oct. 17. Izumida, a former Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry bureaucrat backed by the Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition partner New Komeito, becomes the youngest governor in Japan at 42.
